In 2012, we will celebrate 30 years for the Elberton – Mure Cho Sister City Program!

Resident Students of Elbert County who will be rising Juniors and rising Seniors this summer and are interested in participating in the Summer of 2012 Student Exchange program to Mure Cho, Japan, are asked to complete an application and parental consent form.

Forms will be available beginning in February. All required information must be returned as stated on the application cover letter no later than the date and time specified on the application.   Applications received after this time will NOT be considered.

The Exchange Program will last about two weeks in the summer; exact dates have not been finalized but expect to be mid-July, returning on the end of July.  The Sister City Committee will select up to six students and one chaperone to participate in the exchange.  The Committee estimates the cost of the trip will be approximately $2,500.00 per participant, and each family will be asked to share $700.00 of the total cost.  Participants selected for the program must also obtain a valid U. S. passport prior to departure.

The Sister City Committee will review the applications and information supplied by school officials.  Each applicant will be interviewed individually in a five-minute interview with members of the Sister City Committee in March. Each finalist's academic record, essay, maturity, ability to speak in public, poise, and ability to handle unfamiliar circumstances will be given consideration in the selection process.

The Sister City Committee requires that parents whose children are submitting applications sign the consent form agreeing to the child's interest in the program and accepting the responsibility of the participants cost.  Students who are selected to participate will be asked to serve as a host family for one of the Japanese students, if possible.

The Committee also wants to inform parents that students who are selected to participant will be expected to assist in community programs including fundraising before, during and after the exchange. We know the students will want to share their experiences by giving back to the community that provided them an opportunity of a life time!

Thank you for your interest in the exchange program.
