Elberton Historic Preservation
Program
Elberton’s local preservation
program is administered by the
Elberton Historic
Preservation Commission (HPC),
established in 1985. The main
focus of this commission
is to preserve the history of
our community. The Commission
considers requests and
issues a Certificate of
Appropriateness (COA) prior to
work being started.
When do you need to consult the
HPC to obtain a COA?

· If
you plan to make any
alterations to the
exterior of your
property. Alterations
may include, but are not
limited to, installing
siding, shutters,
fencing, roofing,
painting, outbuildings,
replacing windows, etc.
· Signage
or awnings for your
business
· To
obtain information on
your plans for modifying
your property.
· NOTE:
general
maintenance/repair of
existing property is
encouraged and a COA
is not needed.
