Elections & Voting

Voter Registration
Any person wishing to register to vote or change their voting address may do so at the Elbert County Registrar’s Office, 45 Forest Avenue or the City Municipal Building, 203 Elbert Street.  Inquires should be made to the Elbert County Board of Registrars, 706-283-2012.

Municipal Elections
Elberton City elections are held in odd-numbered years, on the first Tuesday after the first Monday in November. Polls are open from 7 a.m.-7 p.m. Absentee ballots may be obtained at City Hall located at 203 Elbert Street, Elberton, GA 30635, 70
6-213-3105.

Qualifying
Qualifying for the 2010 General Election will be held in the City Municipal Building, 203 Elbert Street, on Tuesday, November 3, 2009.  The purpose of the General Election will be to elect a Mayor and a Council Member each from Wards 1, 4 and 5 for a term of four (4) years.  This General Election will be under the rules of the Georgia Election Code as amended.

All candidates desiring to have their names placed on the ballot of the General Election of the City of Elberton must file Notice of Candidacy in the Office of the Election Superintendent, 203 Elbert Street. Candidates will be required to sign an affidavit stating: Name, Residence showing street number, Profession, that they are an Elector in the City of Elberton, that they have never been convicted of a crime, the Office Sought, Ward Number, and that they will not knowingly violate the Georgia Municipal Election Code or the rules and regulations of the Code of the City of Elberton.

The qualifying fee for Council Member will be determined prior to qualifying.

Municipal Elections are held under the rules of the Georgia Election Code as amended.
