Chief Welsh, a Georgia native, was born and raised in the Atlanta metro area. He has had a long and varied career that spans 31 years. He has served in, and commanded all areas of law enforcement which include: communications, uniform patrol, criminal investigation, and administration. He has held command ranks ranging from Communications Supervisor to Corporal, Sergeant, Lieutenant, Captain, Major, and Lieutenant Colonel - Assistant Chief of Police. Chief Welsh is also a certified police instructor in many areas which include firearms, radar certification, legal issues, and many more. Chief Welsh was appointed Chief of Police in November of 1998. He Lives in the southern part of Elbert County with his wife Debora. Chief Welsh is enthusiastic about his work and is looking forward to growth and improvement in the Department. His focus will be directed towards community/customer service, technological development, state certification, and education of the staff.

Welcome to the Elberton Police Department Website. On behalf of the department I want to welcome you to our city. We are excited to launch the department into the future with this interesting and useful medium. To be able to recruit, advertise, and showcase our department in this manner is an asset we will be improving on constantly. Please check back with us and watch us grow!
