Sec. 6-31. Impoundment; procedure for disposition of impounded animals

 
 
This public safety function, is supervised by the Police Department and charged with the responsibility of controlling the animal population of the City of Elberton in accordance with the various state laws and local ordinances governing health and safety in relation to animals. The one authorized Animal Control Officer, is empowered to seize and impound animals in violation of law or endangering life. This division patrols the confines of Elberton on a weekly scheduled basis as well as responds to individual complaints and requests each day. Any dog or other animal seized and impounded shall be detained for a minimum period of 48 hours and, if not claimed and redeemed by the owner or custodian within such period, shall be disposed of in such manner as the animal control officer shall designate. The Animal Control Compound is located at 1457 Filter Plant Road outside the City Limits.
